The RustOx System is becoming a popular alternative to coal tar epoxy
(CTE) for many reasons. Here’s how the System compares to (CTE):
• Substrates don’t have to be sandblasted to white profile prior to
coating.
• It’s more ductile than CTE, so it can withstand impact.
• It has a substantially longer pot-life (12 mos or more).
• It can be applied in a greater temperature range (40-90 F).
• It dries faster. Approximately 15 minutes between coats.
• It can be sprayed, brushed, or rolled with ordinary paint equipment.
• It can be tinted to virtually any color.

• It outperforms CTE in salt-fog and salt-water submersion testing.

Testing.
The RustOx System was tested according to ASTM and Petroleum Institute
test methods. Long-term salt-fog and saltwater submersion tests were
conducted on coated specimens.
The standard test duration for ASTM B-117-11 is 72 hours. The RustOx
System maintained a rust grade of 10 at 72 hours, so testing continued.
Testing ended at 720 hours with the specimens maintaining a rust grade
of 8 (ASTM D610-08 (12)) above the water line and a rust grade of 10
below the water line. Both grades are excellent results.

surface cleaned, brush, roll, or spray
the KnockOut (KO) Rust Converter &

black iron oxide. Allow to dry for 4-6
hours before applying 2 RustOx
topcoats.
